The present-day gas content of simulated field dwarf galaxies

چکیده
ABSTRACT We examine the gas content of field dwarf galaxies in a high-resolution cosmological simulation. In agreement with previous work, we find that inhabiting dark matter haloes mass below critical value, M200 ≲ Mcrit ≈ 5 × 109 M⊙, are quiescent at present day. The these is thus insensitive to feedback from evolving stars. Almost half systems today have masses much smaller than expected for their mass. gas-deficient originate (1) past interactions massive hosts, which loses and via tidal ram-pressure forces; (2) hydrodynamic gaseous filaments sheets cosmic web, ram pressure. refer as ‘flybys’ ‘COSWEBs’. Flybys locate high-density regions, tracing location most contrast, COSWEBs dispersed throughout volume trace web. For sub-critical systems, < Mcrit, fraction COSWEB can be high $35 {{\ \rm per\ cent}}$, higher flybys, make up 100 per cent $M_{200}\lt 3\times 10^8 \ M_{\odot }$. deficit caused by mechanisms may preclude detection large dwarfs future H i surveys. > web stripping, on average, shuts down star formation more $70{{\ cent}}$ affected systems.

Gas Stripping of Dwarf Galaxies in Clusters of Galaxies
Many clusters of galaxies contain an appreciable amount of hot gas, the intracluster medium. As a consequence, gas will be stripped from galaxies that move through the inter cluster medium, if the ram pressure exceeds the internal gravitational force. We study the interaction between the intracluster medium and an extended gas component of dwarf galaxies confined by a surrounding cold dark matt...
متن کاملPresent - day clustering of radio galaxies
This review discusses three ways in which radio galaxies and other high-redshift objects can give us information on the nature and statistics of cosmological inhomogeneities, and how they have evolved between high redshift and the present: (1) The present-day spatial distribution and clustering of radio galaxies; (2) The evolution of radio-galaxy clustering and biased clustering at high redshif...
متن کاملMolecular gas in blue compact dwarf galaxies
Blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDGs) are currently undergoing strong bursts of star formation. Nevertheless, only a few of them have been clearly detected in CO, which is thought to trace the ”fuel” of star formation: H2. In this paper we present a deep search for CO J = 1 → 0 and J = 2 → 1 emission lines in a sample of 8 BCDGs and two companions. Only 2 of them (Haro 2 and UM465) are detected. ...
متن کاملEvolution of Field Dwarf Galaxies with GEMS
We present a study of the evolution of late-type field dwarfs over the last ∼ 1.9 Gyr, based on HST ACS observations carried out as part of the GEMS survey. This study is amongst the first to probe the evolution of dwarfs over such a large timescale. The comparison of structural properties, particularly size and scale length, indicates that the dwarfs in the redshift range z ∼ 0.01 to 0.15 (loo...
متن کاملGas Mass Fractions and the Evolution of LSB Dwarf Galaxies
The optical and H I properties for a sample of low surface brightness (LSB) dwarf galaxies, cataloged from the Second Palomar Sky Survey, is presented. Gas mass fractions for LSB dwarfs reach the highest levels of any know galaxy type (fg =95%) confirming that their low stellar densities are due to inefficient conversion of gas mass into stellar mass. Comparison with star formation models indic...
